Te Tūranga | About the role
This is a part-time role with working 24 hours per week across four days:

  • Monday: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Friday: 10:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Sunday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

These shifts are fixed, so it's important that you only apply if these days and times work for you.

As a Library Community Hub Assistant you will be the first point of contact for enquiries relating to Tauranga City Council's services, and you'll welcome and assist our community to access library services.

You will be working at Tauranga Library & Community Hub, providing excellent customer service to the community. Once fully trained in both council and library roles, your daily tasks will include:

  • Providing accurate information to customers about a wide range of council services, including rates, dog registrations, parking, community engagement, bylaws, and other council activities
  • Library tasks including assisting with promotion and delivery of library programmes, recommending collections, connecting customers to digital library resources such as e-books, printing and scanning.
  • Upskilling knowledge of Te Ao Māori, council and library databases, computer programmes, changes in technology, health and safety.

Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • Minimum of 3 years' work experience, preferably in a library, community or customer service environment
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Resilience when dealing with challenging customers and situations.
  • The ability to communicate with people within our diverse Tauranga City community
