PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for ensuring a high level of analysis, business performance reporting, provide technical advice, business partnering both internal and external clients, ensuring the integrity of the finance system information and contributing to Council’s compliance with legislation and account standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support the maintenance of the financial system to reflect the changing requirements of the organisation and legislative requirements.
  2. Undertake the recording of transactions and assessing the accuracy of recorded transactions within the financial system as required.
  3. Compile financial reports using the information available in the financial system for both external reporting as well as internal use. This will include maintaining reports that have already been set up within the system.
  4. Business partnering across Departments within the organisation to provide financial information and support in the delivery of their budgets.
  5. Assist in the preparation and completion of Annual Budgets, LTFF Budgets and Budget Reviews in accordance with the budget policy and accounting standards.
  6. Assist in the preparation and completion of the Annual Financial Statements in accordance with the audit plan and accounting standards.
  7. Support the development of business initiatives and reporting requirements including preparation of business cases.
  8. Assist in the preparation of monthly statutory reporting to Council including application of accounting standards.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

Essential

  1. C Class Drivers Licence.
  2. Tertiary qualifications in Business, Accounting, or other area relevant to the position.
  3. Hold or working towards obtaining a recognised professional accounting qualification (eg Chartered Accountants or CPA)
  4. Demonstrated experience in a similar role within a complex environment.
  5. Demonstrated experience in using an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Technology One.
  6. Demonstrated analytical skills, with strong problem solving and attention to detail.
  7. Self-motivated and well-developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to work independently, work on multiple tasks, determine priorities and meet deadlines
  8. Sound presentation and interpersonal skills with well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Demonstrated high level computer literacy, with the ability to utilise financial, records management and Microsoft suite of programs to review and implement improvements to business and performance reporting processes.
  10. Thorough understanding of relevant finance standards, statutory accounting and budget development requirements in Local Government.

Desirable

  1. Previous experience in a Local Government environment highly regarded.
  2. High level of experience with Microsoft products including power queries, power BI and SharePoint
  3. Knowledge of the Local Government Act 2009, Local Government Regulations 2012 and relevant AASB Accounting Standards.
