The opportunity

Help shape a resilient, well planned municipality through your strong leadership and thoughtful decision making. As the Team Leader, you’ll guide staff, manage workloads and provide clear technical direction, while fostering a collaborative, customer‑focused culture. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Council, industry partners and the community, to achieve great drainage and development outcomes, ensure projects run smoothly, manage risks, and ensure consistently reliable service. With a strong focus on safety, compliance, and stakeholder collaboration, this role helps manage key projects, provide trusted tehnical advice, and maintain smooth operational delivery. You'l be leading a positive and proactive environment, where staff, stakeholders, and the community can rely on clear decisions and well-managed engineering services.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and overseeing drainage and development services to ensure statutory compliance, technical quality, and consistent engineering decisions.
  • Providing expert technical advice on drainage, civil infrastructure, and development matters to internal teams, external stakeholders and the community.
  • Managing and supporting the team by coordinating workloads, guiding staff development, and effectively handling enquiries and escalations.
  • Building strong relationships and negotiating effectively with contractors, consultants, authorities, and the community to achieve positive outcomes.

Maintaining strong governance and risk management by ensuring compliance with legislation, standards and Council policies and strategies.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia).
  • Valid registration as a practising professional engineer under the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 (Vic) (NER or pathway).
  • Extensive experience in drainage management, civil infrastructure planning/design, and development assessments.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills.

Proven ability to analyse complex engineering problems, develop well‑considered solutions, and produce clear, accurate technical reports and recommendations.
